Fair use policy
Last updated 22 October 2026
trepil Pro has no meeting count and no minute cap. This page says how we keep it that way: what counts as fair use, what slows down for the rare account far past it, and the few limits that stop rather than slow. It is part of the terms of service.
Why there is a policy
Every meeting trepil writes up, and every question it answers, costs us something with the providers that run the transcription and the write-ups. One price for everyone only works if nearly everyone is nowhere near the edge. Almost nobody will ever notice this policy; it exists so that a script, a shared account or a recorder left running all week can't make the plan worse for everyone else.
What is unlimited
On trepil Pro, these have no count and no cap:
- Meetings, each up to 4 hours long.
- Questions to Ask.
- Voice memos, each up to 80 minutes long.
- Sharing, exporting and reading your notes, on every device.
The two fair use lines
We watch two things, and only these two:
- Meetings: 20 hours of recorded meetings a week. It starts again every week.
- AI work you ask for: a monthly allowance of Ask, imported recordings and rewrites, set well above what a heavy user needs. It starts again every month.
Voice memos have a line of their own: 4 hours of memos a day. Past it, a memo is never refused: it is recorded and kept, and its write-up waits, in the same steps as a meeting's below.
What happens past a line
Past a line, trepil slows down rather than stops. The further past it you are, the slower it gets. Whichever of the two lines you are furthest past sets the step.
| Where you are | Write-ups | Ask and rewrites | Imports |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under the line | As soon as the meeting ends | No limit you will meet | As usual |
| At the line | Within 15 minutes | Up to 60 an hour | As usual |
| One and a half times the line | Within an hour; on a Mac, transcribed on the Mac itself | Up to 20 an hour | Up to 20 a day |
| Twice the line or more | Within 4 hours | Up to 5 an hour | Up to 5 a day |
A slowed meeting's delay counts from when it ended, and the app shows when its write-up will be ready. At one and a half times the line the app tells you, in Settings and in Ask. At twice the line we also email you. Everything returns to normal at the next weekly or monthly reset.
What never happens
- A recording is never cut off because of fair use.
- Nothing you have is deleted, hidden or locked.
- A brief before a meeting is never held back by fair use.
- Your price never changes because of how much you use.
The few hard limits
These stop rather than slow. They sit far above normal use and are there to stop runaway scripts and mistakes.
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| One meeting | The first 4 hours are transcribed and written up. A longer recording is kept, and its note says so. |
| Ask, imports and rewrites together | 300 a day |
| Imported recordings | Up to 40 minutes each, and 4 hours a day |
| Dictation | Up to 5 minutes each, and 2 hours a day |
| Briefs before meetings | 30 a day |
Daily limits start again at midnight in London.
During the trial
The 14 day trial has everything in trepil Pro, with one extra limit: up to 10 hours of meetings in total, on any device. The limit goes as soon as your plan starts.
If you need more
Some people really do spend their whole week in meetings. When the app tells you that you are past a line, it offers a short form: tell us how you use trepil and what you need, and a person reads it. You can also write to hello@trepil.com.
Using trepil in a way designed to get round these limits, such as sharing one account between several people or running it from a script, breaks the terms of service.
