Terms of service
Last updated 5 November 2026
These terms cover your use of trepil on the Mac, Windows, the web and iPhone. By creating an account you agree to them. If you are a consumer, nothing here takes away rights the law gives you.
Who you are contracting with
trepil is run by Attechy Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 16498242, registered office71-75, Attechy Ltd Shelton Street, London, United Kingdom, WC2H 9JQ. Write to us at hello@trepil.com: it is the fastest way to reach us and the address to use for anything in these terms.
When you buy on the web, Mac or Windows, the checkout is run by Stripe through Stripe Managed Payments, which acts as the reseller: it takes the payment, works out and collects any tax, and sends your receipts, under its own terms alongside these. When you buy on iPhone, you buy through Apple's App Store, and Apple's terms for purchases apply. Either way we remain responsible for trepil itself: the service, how well it works, and what we promise below.
Your account
You need an account to use trepil, made with your email address or with Apple, Google or Microsoft. An account is for one person. Keep your sign-in to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used it. You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live, and at least 16.
The plan and the trial
trepil has one plan, trepil Pro, with everything in it. Without a running plan nothing new is recorded or written up, and Ask is off; a recording started while your plan was running is still written up. For 30 days after your plan ends (or after you sign up, if you never start one) your notes stay readable, searchable and exportable, and your share links keep working. After that your notes, meetings, transcripts and Ask chats are hidden and your share links stop opening, until you start a plan again. Nothing is deleted by this: a new plan brings it all back. If you had a plan, we email you 7 days and 1 day before your notes are hidden.
The yearly plan comes with a 14 day free trial. You give a card when you start it and nothing is charged during the trial. We email you 7 days before it ends. If you cancel before the trial ends, you pay nothing; otherwise the yearly plan starts and is charged when the trial ends. You can also choose to start the plan straight away, and it is charged then. There is one trial per person: if you have had a paid plan with us before, the plan starts without one. The monthly plan has no trial and is charged from the first day.
During the trial, meetings are limited to 10 hours in total, whichever device records them. The limit goes when the plan starts.
Prices and paying
- On the web, Mac and Windows: $14 a month, or $120 a year.
- On iPhone, through the App Store: $14.99 a month, or $119.99 a year, or Apple's price for your country.
Prices are in US dollars unless the checkout shows your local currency. Prices on the web, Mac and Windows don't include tax. Where VAT or sales tax is due, including in the UK and the EU, it is added at checkout, and the checkout shows the total before you pay. On iPhone, Apple handles the tax. Your card details never reach us.
We may change our prices. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for, and we tell you by email before it applies to your next renewal, so you can cancel first.
Teams and workspaces
Everyone has their own workspace. It becomes a team when you invite someone to it. A workspace has an owner, and can have admins, members and viewers.
Who is responsible. The owner is responsible for the workspace's plan and for paying for its seats. If you set up or pay for a workspace for your employer or another organisation, you confirm you are allowed to do that.
Roles and seats. Owners, admins and members each hold a seat, which lets them record meetings. Viewers are free: they read what is shared with them and do not record. A seat costs the same as the plan on the web, Mac and Windows, and tax is added at checkout where it is due.
Adding seats. Owners and admins can add seats. Before a seat is added we show what it will cost and ask you to confirm. Seats added to a running plan are charged straight away for the rest of the billing period, prorated, on the plan's card. They then renew with the plan. If a workspace has no card yet, the checkout asks for one.
Removing seats. Moving someone to Viewer, or removing them, frees their seat for someone else. It does not lower your bill: you keep paying for that seat until you lower the seat count. Lowering it gives no refund or credit for the current billing period.
What owners and admins can do. They can invite and remove people, change roles, and approve or decline requests for a seat. They can verify a company domain and let people with an email there find or join the workspace. They can choose how long notes are kept, which moves older notes in the workspace to Trash, and they can turn off sharing outside the company.
Your notes in a workspace. Notes you make are yours, and stay private until you share them or put them in a shared folder. Owners and admins cannot open your private notes. They can still apply the workspace's rules for keeping notes to them. If you leave or are removed, your own notes stay with you, you lose access to what was shared with you through the workspace, and tasks assigned to you go back to Not assigned.
If a team's plan ends. Seats stop working when the paid period ends, so nobody in the workspace can record. For30 days after that, people can still read, search and export what they could before. The workspace's notes are then hidden, not deleted, and they come back if a plan starts again.
Team seats and iPhone. Team seats are paid for on the web, Mac and Windows, not through the App Store. If an owner pays for the plan through the App Store, their own seat stays on that plan until it ends, and then moves to the team's card, prorated.
Business customers. Some rights in these terms are for consumers: people buying mainly for reasons outside their trade, business or profession. If you buy for work, those rights do not apply to that purchase. If your company needs a data processing addendum, write to hello@trepil.com and we will send it.
Renewal and cancelling
Plans renew automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. Where the law where you live requires it, we email you before a yearly plan renews; we send that notice 30 days ahead.
You can cancel at any time: from Settings, which opens Stripe's billing page, or, for a plan bought on iPhone, in your Apple account's subscriptions. Your plan keeps running until the end of the period you have paid for, and then the 30 days described above begin. Cancelling never deletes anything.
If a payment fails we tell you by email and try again for a while before the plan ends.
Refunds and your right to cancel
If you are a consumer in the UK or the EU, you can cancel a purchase within 14 days of it, without giving a reason, and we refund what you paid in full, with nothing kept for the days you used. The free trial does not use up this right: the 14 days start when you are first charged.
To cancel this way, email hello@trepil.com from your account's address and say you want to cancel. Any clear statement will do. We refund to the payment method you used within 14 days of hearing from you. Purchases made through the App Store are refunded by Apple: ask Apple, or use Manage subscription in the app's Settings.
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, a digital service must be supplied with reasonable care and skill and be as described. If trepil falls short, tell us and we will put it right; if we can't, you may be entitled to some or all of your money back.
After the 14 days. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. We don't refund unused time, unless the law requires it or these terms say so.
Mistakes in billing. If we charged you wrongly, for example twice or after you cancelled, email us and we will put it right. Please tell us as soon as you can. This doesn't limit your legal rights.
Disputed payments. Please talk to us before you dispute a payment with your bank, as we can usually sort it out faster. Stripe handles disputes and chargebacks on web, Mac and Windows purchases, and we stay your contact for trepil itself.
Cancellation form. You can use this form to cancel, but you don't have to. Any clear statement will do.
To Attechy Ltd, 71-75, Attechy Ltd Shelton Street, London, United Kingdom, WC2H 9JQ, hello@trepil.com:
I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract for the supply of the following service: trepil Pro.
Ordered on: [date]
Name of consumer: [name]
Address of consumer: [address]
Date: [date]
Fair use
trepil Pro has no meeting count and no minute cap. To keep it that way for everyone, it has fair use lines and a few hard limits, described in the fair use policy, which is part of these terms. Past a fair use line trepil slows down rather than stops. It never cuts off a recording or deletes anything because of fair use.
Using trepil properly
You agree not to:
- share your account with other people, or use one account for a team;
- use scripts, bots or other automated means to drive trepil, or try to get round the fair use lines or limits;
- try to break into, overload or interfere with trepil or the accounts of other people;
- copy, reverse engineer or resell trepil, except where the law lets you regardless of these terms;
- use trepil to break the law, or to record or publish anything you have no right to;
- use trepil from a place, or for a purpose, that sanctions or export laws forbid;
- publish a shared note containing anything unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit or that infringes someone else's rights. Shared pages are checked automatically and we may take one down.
Recording other people
trepil records what your computer plays and your microphone hears. It does not join the call and does not tell the other people that you are recording. You are responsible for recording lawfully. Recording laws differ by country and, in the United States, by state, and some require everyone's consent. Check what applies where you and the other people are, and tell them at the start of the meeting.
You are also responsible for what you do with a recording, a transcript or a note about other people: who you share it with, and keeping it only as long as you need it.
On the Mac, if you allow it, trepil can read people's names from the call's window. How that works is in our privacy policy. When you tell people you are recording, tell them this too.
Voice recognition names only trepil users who turned it on themselves, and only in meetings recorded with trepil that they are invited to. It never keeps a voiceprint of anyone else, but to find those people, and to tell you apart from others in the room, it briefly compares the other voices in the meeting, then discards them. When you tell people you are recording, also tell them that trepil may recognise people who use trepil by their voice. It is a separate choice from these terms: agreeing to these terms does not turn it on. How it works, what is kept and for how long is in our privacy policy. Don't turn it on for someone else, or use it to identify people who haven't agreed.
Your content
Your recordings, notes, transcripts and everything else you put into trepil stay yours. You give us permission to store, process and send them to the providers that run trepil, only as needed to run the service for you: to transcribe, write up, answer your questions, sync between your devices and share what you choose to share. We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not sell it.
What trepil writes for you, such as transcripts, write-ups and answers, is yours to use too, as far as the law allows. We claim no ownership of it.
The privacy policy describes what we hold, where it goes and how long it is kept. In short, meeting audio is deleted once the meeting is written up, voice memo recordings after 30 days unless you choose otherwise, and everything else stays until you delete it.
Our app and brand
The trepil apps, website, design, name and logo belong to us or to the companies we license them from. While these terms apply, you may use the apps as they describe. That doesn't give you any right to our name or logo.
If you think a shared note page infringes your rights, email hello@trepil.com and we will look into it. We may take it down, and close the accounts of people who keep doing it.
What the AI writes
Transcripts, write-ups, checklists, briefs and answers are made by AI. They are usually right and sometimes wrong: a name misheard, an owner given to the wrong person, an answer that sounds sure and isn't. Check anything that matters before you rely on it. Every line of a write-up carries the time it was said, and every answer its sources, so you can.
Don't rely on it alone for decisions that seriously affect someone, such as about their job, health, credit or legal rights. A person should check first.
Other services
When you connect another service to trepil, such as a calendar, trepil works with that service on your instructions, and that service's own terms apply to what happens there. You can disconnect it in Settings.
Availability and changes
We work to keep trepil running and your notes safe, but we can't promise it will never be unavailable. We change trepil over time. If a change takes away something important that you are paying for, we will tell you before it happens, and you can cancel and have a refund for the time you have paid for and not used.
We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events we can't reasonably control, such as a major outage at a provider. If that happens, we will do what we reasonably can to limit the effect.
Ending the agreement
You can stop at any time by cancelling your plan, and delete your account in Settings, which deletes your notes, transcripts and recordings with it. Download anything you want to keep first: Settings can download every note you have in one zip.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, for example by abusing trepil or recording people unlawfully. Unless the law or the risk to others prevents it, we will tell you first and give you the chance to put it right and to download your notes. If we close your account for no fault of yours, we refund the time you have paid for and not used.
If we ever stop running trepil, we will give you at least 60 days' notice to download your notes, and refund any time paid for after the end.
The parts of these terms meant to last, such as those on your content and liability, carry on after the agreement ends.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for breach of your statutory rights as a consumer, or for anything else the law does not let us limit.
Apart from that, we are not responsible for losses we could not reasonably have foreseen, for losses caused by your breach of these terms, or for business losses such as lost profit or lost opportunity. Our total liability to you for anything to do with trepil is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Changes, law and complaints
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and if a change materially affects you we will tell you by email before it takes effect.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to its courts. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of where you live, and can bring a claim in your local courts.
You can't transfer this agreement to someone else without our permission. We may transfer it to a company that takes over trepil, and your rights stay the same. If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce something straight away, we can still do so later. These terms and the documents they mention are the whole agreement between us about trepil, and nobody else has rights under them. None of this affects your legal rights as a consumer.
If something goes wrong, email hello@trepil.com. We aim to reply within 5 working days. If we can't resolve it between us, consumers in the UK can get free advice from Citizens Advice, at citizensadvice.org.uk.
